What's the Neighborhood Like?
Cameron Station was built to resemble a small town, with its brick sidewalks, pocket parks and colonial style street lamps. Located 4.5 miles west of Old Town Alexandria, it is popular with commuters thanks to its location near the Beltway as well as the Van Dorn Metro station. The community also offers a rush hour shuttle bus to the Van Dorn metro.
There is even a "Main Street", with retailers including a coffee shop, a day spa, day care and learning center, convenience market, dentist, dry cleaner and pizza restaurant, all in a great location adjacent to Ben Brenman Park.
What's Going on Nearby the Cameron Station Neighborhood?
Cameron Station is close to local West Alexandria shopping, as well as only a few minutes from Old Town Alexandria. For bicyclists, you can pick up a bike path in Ben Brenman Park, ride over to Eisenhower Avenue, hook up with the bike trail along Eisenhower, which will take you into Old Town, where you can access the Mount Vernon Bike Trail, which is a huge favorite of area cyclists, with its wonderful views of the Potomac River and DC monuments.
Cameron Station is located off Duke Street and parallel to it runs Eisenhower Avenue, where you will find the the Hoffman Town Center, with its 22-screen cineplex, several restaurants, Starbucks and Cold Stone creamery. In the hot days of summer, you can find cool relief at Cameron Run Regional Park, with its water park. There's also putt putt, batting cages and picnic areas for more family fun.
And then there is Old Town Alexandria itself, the charming 18th century town filled with boutiques, doggy bakeries, renowned and innovative restaurants and historic homes, all laid out next to the sparkling Potomac River.
6/16/13 UPDATE! Alexandria City Council just approved an exciting plan for the redevelopment of nearby Landmark Mall which is great news for Cameron Station area residents, as well as all residents of west end Alexandria.
